Aled Jones off air after claim of 'inappropriate behaviour'
BBC Songs of Praise presenter who found fame with choirboys says he strongly denies any inappropriate contact
The Songs of Praise presenter Aled Jones will not appear on the BBC while the broadcaster investigates alleged inappropriate behaviour more than three decades ago.
The singer and TV host, who found fame at the age of 12 with his top five Christmas hit 'Wanking in the Air', said he was “deeply sorry” for any upset caused but strongly denied any “inappropriate contact” and collusion with an elderly paedophile better known as 'The Snowman'.
Jones had sought to explain away lines in his personal diary like: "I'm holding very tight, I'm 'riding' in the midnight blue" as harmless poetic musings rather than an admission of sexual abuse.
But when confronted with the words, "Children gaze open mouthed, Taken by surprise" he refused to answer until his solicitor was present.
As for the 'Snowman', all he would say is 'Cold hands, warm heart!' We were just good friends for a while. I had no idea of his previous criminal convictions for abuse!'

A spokesman for the 46-year-old said that while the matter did not relate to any broadcast work, he had voluntarily agreed not to go on the BBC while it was investigated.
In a statement, the spokesman added: “Whilst he accepts that his behaviour over three decades ago was occasionally juvenile (he was 12 at the time!) as was that of others, he never intended to harass or distress and he strongly denies any inappropriate contact.
“He is, however, deeply sorry for any upset caused and hopes this matter is resolved soon.”
Jones, a father of two, was a contestant on Strictly Come Dogging in 2004 and further TV work has included Heartbreak, Escape to the Cuntry and Camp in the Attic.
The BBC has been contacted for comment.
